UPDATE -- MSC Precision Drill Team 2nd Place at MN State Fair
The MSC Drill team placed 2nd at the MN State Fair in 2012 and had an excellent ride!
This year saw the club housed in the big horse barn in larger (deeper) tie stalls. Our old barn annex is gone and replaced by the new quarters for horses, but Menomonie was not placed in the new quarters. No problem! Our new "home" was very much sufficient and everyone worked together to get ready for inspection.
Here's the video of the ride - - congratulations MSC for a super performance!

McKayla McElwaine and Lyn Muszynski are the Drill Masters for the MSC 2022 Precision Drill Team. Drill consists of 16-20 horses/riders in a precision formation, generally at a lope, for about 10 minutes. Practices are held every Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Dunn County Fairgrounds. We usually start on foot in April at local school gyms, and then bring in the horses at the Fairgrounds in May.
What do you need to do if you want to ride in Drill?
Contact Lyn at 715- 529 0255 and let her know you're interested in joining us.
* You will need to be a fairly good rider - - again, Drill is 10 minutes at a lope, horses in VERY tight formation. Here's a link to what drill looks like:

* You should have a dark horse: sorrel, bay, black, dark buckskin to ride in the formation. We do use 4 Tobianos or maybe palominos for the Flag horses. No grays, loud appaloosas, etc.
* Your horse MUST neck rein, as you'll be carrying a flag.
* Your horse needs to be well broke to being close to other horses; no kickers! He/she should be able to be ridden in a tie down and boots on all four legs (we use these for performance). He/she should be able to stand for inspection quietly, and allow clipping of the ears and legs (again, for performance). If we go to State Fair in 2016, your horse will be in a box stall for 3 - 4 days.
* You'll need to make a committment to be at drill practice. Everyone misses a week here and there due to illness or work or vacation. But if you can only come every other week due to work, plan to ride as a substitute and we ALWAYS need substitutes!
* Drill practice is not designed for breaking out a colt or working on major issues with a problem horse. There are 20+ riders in the arena warming up and 20 during the actual practice. We want everyone to be safe.
* No Draft or Draft crosses, gaited horses, etc. Your horse will need to trot and lope (not pace or gait). Horses are generally around 15hh, with some a bit bigger or smaller. However, a very small horse (14.1hh) or a very big horse (16.1hh) is going to look out of place in the Precision Drill.
We are always in need of good, committed riders with sound and solid mounts! If your horse meets the majority of the qualifications, work with him/her at home to get a smooth transition to a lope, neckreining, and the ability to ride side-by-side and head-to-tail safely. We start off at a walk, so it's important for you to be riding with us at the first practices; it's much harder to bring in a new horse once we are flying around in the arena. We guarantee that the Drill experience will be good for your solid mount, and fun for you!
